The Prize

Edward Hogan was named winner of the £10,000 Desmond Elliott Prize for Blackmoor.

The second Desmond Elliott Prize was awarded on 24 June 2009 by the panel of three judges, Candida Lycett Green (Chair), Rodney Troubridge and Suzi Feay. A longlist of 10 titles was announced in late March followed by a shortlist of three books in May 2009.

Candida Lycett Green, Chair of the Judges, comments,
“In a shortlist of exceptional quality Blackmoor stands out.  For a first novel it is both beautifully crafted and dazzlingly well-written.  We are delighted that Edward Hogan has won the second Desmond Elliott Prize.”

In selecting the winner, the judges looked for a novel that is a page-turner, a book that leaves a lasting impression and which appeals to a wide general audience.
